Rachael Sage - Canopy

With 15 solo studio albums under her belt since 1996, Rachael Sage brings a new offering that follows on perfectly from her previous catalogue, summarising her entire ethos in both her life and her music. The ultimate song about unity, Canopy ushers a gentle flow of the listener's attention away from the wars that rage across the world. Albeit with a slightly controversial lyrical introduction - 'I believe with every beating of my heart / if the world were run by women, there would be an end to war' (let's assume Sage has never heard of Katie Hopkins), Canopy stands as an expression of love to all, in a slightly more mellow way than Rihanna's Umbrella. I have had the absolute pleasure of seeing Sage and a variety of other musicians performing live - Kelly Halloran on fiddle, Will Wilde on harmonica (both also incredible artists in their own right) - and every time I have come away with a sense of love, peace and contentment. This song has the same effect. If you enjoy a soft, breathy vocal and a gentle, swaying rhythm with a singalong da-da-da section, then this song is definitely for you.
