It's not often I get sent something that I can't actually wait to write about! I've had access to this EP for a few weeks and have enjoyed listening to it several times already, so I would strongly suggest you take a listen. Pale Male, pseudonym for Fantin Moreno, is Swiss songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer. His own description on Spotify states that 'A Pale Male is what he sees in the mirror every morning, but it's also a mixed bag of vivid yet paradoxical emotions.' Moreno was in Worthing recently playing drums for Felix Rabin, which is where I met him and connected, hence sharing his music here.
The EP begins with two tracks that have previously been released as singles; 'Blame me' and 'Bed bugs'. These songs are both epic indie pop tunes! Full sounding production, with a band vibe. Moreno plays the majority of the instruments which makes it all the more impressive. 'Paperwork' begins with a country style slide guitar line, then as the vocals come in it takes me straight back to Imogen Heap's 'Hide and Seek' with close vocal harmonies and a slightly stripped back vibe in comparison to the rest of the EP. Concluding with 'Reaching out' feels like it was a 'go big or go home' strategy. Moreno clearly has a skill for choosing a hooky melody, but the arrangement is a key factor in how good the songs sound - each one has its own identity, but all are well written, played, arranged and produced. If you've not explored my recommendations before, this would be a good place to start.
